Boss Babes and The Struggle for Balance

Boss Babe. The term gets thrown around to describe a woman who owns her own business but I think it can be extended to include industry professionals, entrepreneurs in the center of influence, young women working their butts off to get established in the world, mothers of young children, and anyone and everyone working on personal development because those are all boss things to do…

…And because the primary trait that defines a woman as a boss babe is that they work hard. Sometimes, like, real hard. And having trained with these hard-working, boss-babe types for nearly a decade, I can tell you, it is often a struggle for boss babes to find a way to balance it all.

We must balance family time with work time, health & wellness needs with business needs, balance all of our goals against each other, and even the Parasympathetic (rest and digest) & Sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous systems must be balanced.

Does the struggle for balance sound familiar? Then this is article is dedicated to you and all the females who work continually on bettering themselves, their lives, and the lives of the people around them.

Here are some tips to help you find balance:

  • Get clear on what your goals are and rank them by order of importance.

  • Sympathetic nervous system overactivity (which is linked to a myriad of health problems) is common in boss babes because we want to do ALL THE THINGS. So, we must actively seek out downtime to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Decide what things don’t hold as much importance as others and let go where you can.

  • Move! Exercise is good for turning down the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. So choose an activity that makes you happy! Dance and acrobatics boost cognitive function…just sayin’! We also love acrobatics for building the grip strength (which has been shown to lower risk of heart disease). Yes please.

  • Prioritize sleep at all costs.

  • Everyone knows the importance of nourishing your body with healthy foods. The hard part is how to stick with eating those healthy foods! So, always take your next meal with you when you are leaving the house. If you travel for work or on family vacations, take healthy foods with you. Consider taking a probiotic to aid the gut-brain connection!

  • Connect with your tribe! Try not to think about your to-do list during this time. Be present. Nothing else recharges the batteries as well as quality time with your loved ones.

Whatever level of balance [or imbalance] you are currently experiencing, I know you are doing the best that you can, and I am proud of you. Take care, sister, and remember that you will always have a community in aerial and pole fitness to help lift you when you need it. XOXO, Mindy
